Katy Perry unveils opening act for Des Moines arena show
Katy Perry is set to return to Des Moines this December for a one-night only performance at Wells Fargo Arena.
Katy Perry took to social media Thursday morning to announce which acts would be roaring alongside the pop star for the anticipated “Witness” tour, which invades Des Moines on Dec. 2.
Perry unveiled that Canadian electronic pop duo Purity Ring would warm the crowd during her scheduled stop at Wells Fargo Arena. The show marks the last of 2017 at the arena and comes in support of Perry’s latest studio effort, “Witness.” The album boasts Perry’s latest singles, including “Chained to the Rhythm” and Migos collaboration “Bon Apetit.”
Purity Ring, hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, brings its flavor of alternative pop to Des Moines after the release of a new single, “Asido,” and two years since the group released the critically acclaimed second album, “Another Eternity.” Billboard gave the album a four out of five review, saying it “refracts pop through a funhouse mirror.” Notable Purity Ring tracks include “Fineshrine,” “Begin again” and “Bodyache.”
“It was a fun record, like listening to Madonna at half speed with your face in a strobe light,” Billboard wrote.
Perry announced “Run Away With Me” pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen and Miley Cyrus’ sister Noah Cyrus would open additional dates of the tour. The “Witness” tour marks Perry’s first Des Moines appearance since performing outside the arena during a Hillary Clinton presidential campaign rally in 2015.
Foo Fighters, Chris Stapleton and Bob Seger round out scheduled shows at the arena for 2017. Lorde and Shania Twain are set to perform at the venue in 2018.
