An indie rock favorite is returning to Des Moines this summer. And things could get sweaty.

Spoon, the “Underdog” outfit hailing from Austin, Texas, returns to Des Moines on June 28 for an intimate, one-night only show at Wooly’s (504 E. Locust). Tickets cost $40.50 before fees and go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. via

Spoon returns to to the roughly 650-person capacity venue following a co-headlining appearance at the 2010 80/35 Music Festival alongside fellow indie favorite Modest Mouse. The group plays Iowa’s capital city in support of ninth studio longplay, “Hot Thoughts,” which dropped in 2017.

Behind the album’s self-titled lead single, Spoon saw critical success with “Hot Thoughts,” which music tastemaker Pitchfork said kept “their reliably great songwriting and adding new, electronic textures.” Noteable Spoon numbers include “I Turn My Camera On,” “Rent I Pay,” “Inside Out” and “The Way We Get By.”
