Iowa’s own Maddie Poppe returned Friday with a heartwarming new single, “First Aid Kit.”
“First Aid Kit” marks Poppe’s third single since winning the first season of ABC's “American Idol” reboot in May 2018. The song comes via Hollywood Records, which signed Poppe following her “Idol” win.
A swaying acoustic ballad that departs from her previous pop-leaning singles, Poppe sings: “Stitch up the pieces when I fall apart/You’ll be the bandage on my broken heart/Because, baby, you could be first aid kit.”
On Twitter, Poppe jested a la Taylor Swift that “I’m sorry..the 2018 Maddie can’t come to the phone right now..why...idk......she wanted to try out a new style.”
A debut album from Poppe plans to drop May 17, a news release said. She'll follow-up "First Aid Kit" on March 1 with the release another single titled "Little Things."
On the full-length debut, Poppe said in the release: “The process on this album has been a lot of fun. ... I’m really staying true to myself on this album and I’ve gotten to work with a really great team.”
A native of Clarksville, Iowa, Poppe rocketed last year from recording songs in her small-town basement to being crowned champion of the popular music competition. Poppe returns to her home state in March for a Davenport concert supporting Gilda’s Club Quad Cities.
Poppe plans to return to Des Moines later this year for a performance at the Iowa State Fair.
