Don't let a little snow stop you from summer concert planning. 

Des Moines summer concert tradition Nitefall on the River announced five concerts slated for 2019, the first batch to be added this year. The list includes a Hinterland Music Festival alum, tribute to Minneapolis' musical son and local favorites.

The shows: 

  • May 10: The Prince Experience, a Prince tribute. Tickets cost $25 before fees. 8 p.m. 
  • May 24: Arch Allies, a 1980s rock tribute. Tickets cost $20 before fees. 8 p.m. 
  • May 31: The Nadas, Iowa-grown folk rock. Tickets cost $20 before fees. 7 p.m. 
  • June 25: Lake Street Dive, Boston-based indie soul music, with opener Nicole Atkins. Tickets cost $30 before fees. 7 p.m.
  • Aug. 23: The Pork Tornadoes and the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Iowa-based rock 'n' roll tributes, with Pianopalooza opening. Tickets cost $20 before fees. 7 p.m.

Due to Locust Street bridge construction temporarily closing Simon Estes Amphitheater, all shows plan to take place at the Brenton Skating Plaza. 

Now in its 23rd year, Nitefall on the River brings a few dozen outdoor concerts to downtown Des Moines annually. Shows typically kick off in April or May, running through September.
