Street Style: Jordan Brownlee, 29
Owner of j brownlee
East Village in Des Moines
Where do you find style inspiration?
Fashion magazines such as Vogue, InStyle and People Style Watch. The photos really inspire me to try new looks that I can use in the store, and even on myself. It's fun to just play around with it.
What's the one thing you can't leave the house without?
I'd say lipstick. I never leave the house without putting some color on my lips.
Who's your style icon?
Coco Chanel is my style icon. I love all her clean, classic pieces and designs that will never go out of style. They're timeless.
What trend do you hate most at the moment?
The trend that I still see, but cannot understand, is jean shorts so short you can see the pocket lining hanging out of the bottom of the shorts, and UGGS in the summer?! STOP.
What's your favorite store?
My favorite store is j brownlee, of course!
On a scale of 1-10 how fashionable would you rate DSM? Why?
I find Des Moines to be very fashionable. It has most things a big city offers with easier access. Who wouldn't want to shop here?
Favorite restaurant in Des Moines?
My favorite restaurant is Lucca in the east village. I love the exposed brick walls and trendy atmosphere. To me, it has a big-city feel.
What's one store Des Moines needs?
That's tough to answer as Des Moines has a lot to offer! Perhaps, an upscale men's clothing store in the East Village.
What trends are you most excited about for the fall season?
The colors, which are the earthy and natural tones. I love that. Also, whether it's real or faux, FUR will be back in!
