Legends American Grill in downtown Des Moines closed Sunday after 12 years on Court Avenue.
The new owner is longtime Court Avenue businessman Larry Smithson, according to son Jason Smithson.
Larry Smithson was unavailable for comment and it’s not clear what he plans to do with the street-level space in the Court Center building, 216 Court Ave.
Legends owner Mark Rogers, who operates a Legends American Grill in Johnston and two in West Des Moines, in addition to Fire Creek Grill in West Des Moines, said the offer to buy the restaurant and bar “was a good one.” He declined to divulge the purchase price.
Rogers closed the Legends in Pleasant Hill earlier this year.
Business at the downtown restaurant had been good for a long time, but “downtown is changing,” he said.
He did not know what the new owner planned for the space but thought a new business would open there by late November or early December.
