The creator of two popular sushi restaurants in Des Moines, Wasabi Chi and Wasabi Tao, has opened a third sushi eatery, this time in West Des Moines.

On Monday, Jay Wang debuted Wasabi — no Chi or Tao — in a retail center at 9500 University Ave., which is west of the Des Moines Golf and Country Club and near Waukee.

The restaurant is 3,000 square feet and seats 95 inside and 60 more on an adjacent patio. It is open for lunch and dinner, closing briefly between.

The menu is similar to Wang’s other restaurants, but includes ceviche, a larger variety of Wasabi rolls, a wide selection of fish and other entrees, and Asian cocktails, he said.

Wang also recently opened Teriyaki Boys, a fast food restaurant in Local Bites, the food court in the lower level of the Partnership Building in downtown Des Moines. That restaurant offers meat, vegetables and sauces cooked on a grill.

Wasabi in West Des Moines is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
