The Original Pancake House, 1810 S.W. White Birch Circle, Suite 118, Ankeny, has opened.

Patrons ordering one of the restaurant’s signature dishes — the apple pancake, egg soufflé or Dutch Baby — can expect a 30- to 40-minute wait because that’s how long they take to bake, said co-owner Jodi Jannes.

The breakfast and lunch spot, which serves mostly pancakes, omelets, waffles, crepes, meats and side dishes, is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday in the space that formerly housed Rookies Sports Bar & Grill.

Specialty dishes include the apple pancake, a large baked pancake covered with sauteed apples and cinnamon sugar, and the Dutch Baby, a baked popover pancake served with lemon, whipped butter and powdered sugar.

Jannes said it’s worth the wait for the breakfast treats. She owns the restaurant with her husband, Chris Jannes, and Pat and Brenda Caligiuri.

This is the first Iowa location for the Portland, Ore., company.
