New breakfast cafe offers scrambled eggs with a side of hip-hop
Sarah Cattoor is creating a breakfast eatery called Me So Hungry, Hip-Hop Breakfast Cafe.
The themed restaurant will open Aug. 9 at 1907 E.P. True Parkway in West Des Moines in the space formerly occupied by Jeremiah Bullfrogs Bar & Grill.
Cattoor and her husband Ryan Greening have long wanted to open a breakfast spot, she said.
Me So Hungry’s menu will include fried chicken and waffles, Dutch Baby puffed pancakes, breakfast poutine and other items. The food will be made from scratch with many local ingredients. Hailey Dixon is the chef.
The inside will be retro 1990s, Cattoor said. “It’s going to be a really fun place and all the (1990s) music will be family friendly,” she said.
Breakfast entrees include cheese bread pudding with sausage, a blend of pumpernickel and brioches and topped with an egg and garlic bechamel sauce; plaintain fritters stuffed with bacon and cheese and topped with a fried egg, pico de gallo and avocado; biscuits and gravy; breakfast burritos, omelettes; French toast pretzels topped with brown sugar streusel; chorizo, bacon, egg and cheese egg rolls; Dutch baby pancakes; oatmeal stout battered French toast with bananas and toasted oats.
There's also a 'lighter fare' menu with quiche stuffed peppers; salmon cakes; and scrambled egg whites. Vegan dishes include Greek yogurt with house made granola and vegan pancakes.
Me So Hungry will be open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Cattoor has applied for a liquor license for the business.
Cattoor and Greening also operate bar/restaurants The Keg Stand and Cattoor’s on Grand, both in West Des Moines.
The Keg Stand is the subject of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the estates of two Des Moines police officers and a passenger killed in a fiery crash by a drunken driver who hit their SUV.
Cattoor and Greening’s corporation, Butterface LLC, is the defendant in the suit, which alleges that The Keg Stand employees served the drunken driver before the crash when they "knew or should have known" that he was already intoxicated, a violation of Iowa's dram shop law.
The driver subsequently drove the wrong way on Interstate Highway 80 near Waukee and ran head-on into the police officers' SUV.
