Two people were killed on a snow-covered road in Grundy County on Sunday, WHO-TV has reported

Justin Kime, 21, of Stewartville, Minnesota, and Tristan Marlow, 21, of Council Bluffs, died at the hospital after the accident, according to WHO. 

According to the sheriff's office, a driver lost control because of the weather conditions, crossed the center line and was hit by a semi-truck. Both the driver and their passenger died, per the WHO report.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured. 

The crash occurred around 12:40 p.m. Sunday on Highway 14 near Conrad. The area received about 7 inches of snow Saturday night into Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service's snow totals.

The men were both seniors at the University of Northern Iowa, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports. Marlow was majoring in religion and Kime in management information systems.
