The Iowa State Fair returns this week with some of the hottest names in rock 'n' roll and country on the Grandstand stage.

But for those looking to do the fair on a budget, there are plenty of free entertainment options.

The State Fair free stages will host more than 60 concerts across the 11 days of the fair.

The free-stage lineup includes Iowa's own American Idol winner Maddie Poppe, who performs at the Susan Knapp Amphitheater on opening night (8 p.m.), and up-and-comers like The Wild Feathers (8 p.m. Aug. 8), Sweet Tea Trio (8 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11) and Flatland Calvary (8 p.m. Aug. 15).

Take a trip back in time Aug. 12 with two performances by Prince tribute band The Purple Xperience on the MidAmerican Energy Stage (7 and 9 p.m.) and Hairball on the Susan Knapp Amphitheater (8 p.m.).

And for the '80s hair rockers out there, don't miss Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler (8 p.m. Aug. 14) and the platinum blond brothers from Nelson (8 p.m. Aug. 18). Or reach way back into the vault and check out Kix (8 p.m. Aug. 17).
