Morning Juice: Go home, Iowa. You're drunk.

Good morning, Iowa!

As we inch closer to the weekend, I hope things are going by smoothly for you. I wrote about dragon sex the other day, so that should tell you everything you need to know about how my week is going. I heard that the weather will be warmer this weekend, so a trip to the farmers market (make sure you try one of these 15 items) or a happy hour with some friends feels like it should be on your agenda. Or maybe take advantage of one of these 10 low-cost dinner specials. Go treat yourself! Here's what you missed this week...

Will we see you Saturday at the Capital Square Atrium, 400 Locust St., for Market Day? It's from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m and there will be around 70 vendors there. We found six cool ones to check out. You can find art, clothes, jewelry, kitchenware, ceramics, toys and more.

As Nitefall on the River heads into its 20th year, I'm excited about the 16 acts announced for this summer, which include Brandi Carlile, Gov’t Mule, Blues Traveler, Collective Soul and more. The first show starts Friday with a performance from Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers. Did you know that kids 10 and under get into each show for free? Here are 19 other things you should know about Nitefall on the River.

I have some sobering news. Two Iowa cities have cracked the top 20 drunkest cities in the United States, according to a new poll. Iowa City came in at No. 19 with 23.2 percent of Iowa Citians reporting that they drink to excess. But Iowa City falls behind Ames, which sits at No. 8. The study is based on self-reported binge drinking and heavy drinking rates among adults in U.S. metro areas.

All work and no play makes for a dull life, so we caught up with Des Moines transplant and our 2015 Ashley Okland Community Service award winner Alex Duong for some tips on adjusting and enjoying Des Moines to the fullest. “Lately I’ve realized that life is very short and things need to get done, BUT YOU NEED BALANCE,” Duong said. He takes an hour out of his day to recharge by working out and he reserves his weekends for checking out new restaurants.

His three favorites to try:

  • RedRossa Napoli Pizza
  • Pho 888
  • La Hacienda

  • Rayna’s Art and Design henna designs. Her work is beautiful and she’ll be at Market Day this weekend. Follow her on Instagram and Facebook. I heard that she also does “Henna Mondays” at Mars Café.
